Sonia Oliveri is a Partner in the firm’s Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices and leads the firm’s EB-5 Practice Group focusing her practice on commercial client’s Business Immigration and International Business needs. Sonia assists corporate clients, foreign corporations and investors concerning complex corporate transactions and complex immigration matters, with an emphasis on the EB-5 program, the E-2 Treaty Investor Program, and L-1 Intracompany Transferee Visa Applications.

An Italian native and fluent in six (6) languages, Sonia represents international clientele and investors from all over the world and specifically from Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Dubai, and India. Sonia’s cultural experience and global international background and perspective make her uniquely qualified to work with international clientele on matters that require a specific cultural sensitivity. Sonia is able to leverage her international business abilities as well as interpersonal skills in complex international matters, both corporate and immigration-related. Sonia is able to present creative solutions and identify issues before they become problematic while delivering the highest levels of customer attention and care.

Sonia has consulted countless foreign national clients on obtaining green cards through either individual direct or pooled investments or Regional Centers EB-5 investments, nationwide. Sonia has also served clients worldwide including treaty investors (E-2), immigrant investors, regional centers, multi-national managers and corporations, small businesses, artists, entertainers, athletes, students, trainees, professionals, managers, executives, employers and individuals seeking solutions to complex immigration and business issues.

Sonia also works with employers and human resources departments on I-9 compliance as well as H-1B and LCA compliance. Sonia regularly counsels employers in connection with immigration-related regulatory compliance issues including employment eligibility verification issues, E-Verify and I-9 audits, internal audits and reviews.

The combination of her International Business and Multilingual background, allows Sonia to bring unique expertise to the EB-5 arena in general. Sonia’s thorough understanding of the broad issues associated with business migration to the U.S. permits Sonia to recognize and communicate to clients many of the complex issues of the U.S. Business Immigration outside of the traditional application filings with USCIS. Sonia has created professional relationships where she educates and advises on the complexities of these matters with the clients of numerous U.S. investment groups, Regional Centers, and Developers. Additionally, Sonia specifically advises these groups on the EB-5 program compliance, including developing new projects that qualify for EB-5 investments, preparing amendment filings, and applying for exemplar petitions. Sonia also works with securities lawyers, economists, business plan writers and other professionals in the preparation and filing of Regional Center designations and Regional Center amendment applications. From the beginning of her career, Sonia has been responsible for filing hundreds of EB-5 petitions and dealing with all legal issues they bring to all her clients.  

Prior to joining the firm, Sonia worked as an Attorney for a major immigration investment law firm where she gained vast experience in business immigration, specifically advising high-net-worth foreign nationals and businesses in global immigration, employment-based applications, business and investor visas, business agreements, corporate formation, employment and commercial lease agreements and contract negotiations. She also advised individuals, businesses and Regional Centers on EB-5 compliance issues and complex U.S. immigration and nationality matters.

  • E-2 Treaty Investor Visa

    The “E” visa allows foreign citizens of designated countries to be eligible for the status of the “E” visa, come to the United States, make an investment, develop a business, and eventually offer jobs to the American market (not a requirement). The main requirement for this type of visa is the availability of “substantial” capital) to invest into a real, commercial, enterprise in the United States.

    The length of this visa is usually five (5) years, variables include where the application has been filed, the structure and presentation of the file and the beneficiary’s country of nationality. The processing times varies but you can estimate approximately 2 to 3 months from start to finish in the best case scenario.

Before moving to the United States, Sonia earned her Juris Doctor degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Roma Tre University in Rome, Italy. Sonia earned her second Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law in the United States. Sonia is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and a frequent attendee of IIUSA’s events (Invest in the United States of America). Sonia is also a member of the Italian American Chamber of Commerce for the Southeast and frequent attendee of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida events, the Brazilian Business Groups, the French Chamber of Commerce, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, and the European Chambers of Commerce.
